Sinterklaas Stocking Pattern

It wouldn’t quite be Christmas without a proper stocking, would it? Ample in size (especially in the heel and toe!), this worsted-weight version would be a wonderful way to attempt colorwork for the first time. Using just two colors per row and fairly simple 6-row chart, we designed this stocking using a few traditional, ethnic motifs. The colors–your choice of either a handsome forest green or a cranberry red– give it a woodsy, Northern Michigan twist. Get the most mileage out of this Christmas sock by finishing it in time for St. Nicholas Day on December 6, a holiday tradition for many European families in which shoes (or stockings) are set by the front door to be filled with special treats. Even as an adult woman, I set my slippers out every year–and hope for a bit of chocolate-covered marzipan!
