Burdickville Blue Spruce was our February 2022 feature for the Sleeping Bear Yarn Club. Dyed exclusively for us by the lovely Ryan of Ryan Yarn in Athens, Georgia, this variegated skein gives the feeling of a pine bough loaded down with sparkling, fresh powder. Like the Blue Spruce itself, this skein is teeming with hidden color‑‑deep swaths of verdant, blue-green punctuated by pools of creamy white and dotted with speckles in spring green, aquamarine, chestnut brown‑‑even a hint of cranberry red. It’s an inhale of green vibrance and hope during a time of intense quiet, a reminder of beauty in both knitting and in Life.​​​​​​​

Burdickville is a tiny, unincorporated community nestled on the lower east side of Big Glen Lake‑‑the gazebo at Old Settlers picnic grounds is its (unofficial) town hall. Our childhood home is on Fritz Road, near Glen Lake School, and our neighbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park Ranger Tom Van Zoeren, dubbed us ‘true Burdickvillians’ a decade ago at the yearly community picnic.
