“Pumila” is a lightweight mini shawl ideal for chilly spring and autumn days. Ayano Tanaka  designed it like strings of small fruits, using nupp and Little knot stitch. Nupp is often shown in Estonian Haapsalu lace shawl and it’s used it here with a little twist.

This shawl can be knit with any yarn, so try to knit with variety of fiber and weight of yarn. There is written instructions of how you can make a larger shawl. You will have plenty of yarn to do so with one skeins of Tibetan Cloud. Pumila was originally designed for Tokyo Yarn Crawl 2023.

The pattern includes both charts and written instructions. There are step by step photo instructions for the Nupp and Little Knot Stitch. This feels like a great summer knit. It is built connecting simple knitting skills making a stunning design. The format might take a moment to get used to (or maybe that was just Liz) but it felt nice to work the brain just a little. Organize the structure of the pattern, try these simple new stitches and it moves along wonderfully. A beautiful, clever designed shawl.

Now that we have finished the shop sample for the KAL, we wanted to pass on some tips ahead of time so you can be prepared with plenty of time.

The first is The Hive Chain Row Counter. We know we have been talking about this a lot lately but honestly this was just the pattern for a counter like this. It was very helpful keeping track as there are charts to repeat multiple times. We have new gemstone color options coming as well.

We used 32″ wooden circular needles for the most ease. The wood was very helpful when pulling the yarn through so many stitches to make the Nupps. We used a US 6 but easily could (should) have used a US 7 as Liz becomes a tight knitter with this type of stitch work.

If you would like to add any of these notions to your current KAL order, you can simply select Local Pick-up and include an Order Note stating you have a previous KAL order. We’ll send everything together with no extra shipping.

Fun fact, the shawl only used half the skein. So, for all you efficient knitters who’d like to use the entire skein, we will extend the KAL time. Instead of July 28th, you will have until to August 11th. Now, for the sneaky knitters (you know who you are) this does not mean you can have 4 weeks for the original sized shawl. Anyone submitting their photos for the August 11th deadline will either have a photo of 2 Pumila Shawls or a significantly longer version of the Pumila. If you need help figuring out how to use the entire skein for this project better than just guessing, feel free to give us a call and we’ll walk you through it. The idea here is some of us are bothered having these half used skeins. If it wasn’t for our own timeline, the shop sample would have been made using an entire skein.

To order the kit:

Step One: Choose your 1 skein of mYak Tibetain Cloud

Step Two: Purchase the Pumila Shawl Pattern HERE separately from Ravelry.
