What is a shawl, and why is it so important? Tuck it around your neck and into your coat–you’re keeping out a draft. A little shield from the elements. It’s something to drape over the shoulders, an embrace when you can’t be there in person. The ultimate in comfort knitting–sometimes, you just cast on and go–wherever the yarn leads.

In the words of the designer, our dear friend Andrea Mowry…

“Using two different weights of yarn adds even more texture to this shawl. I kept my MC neutral and used my CC to play with color. Anything from another solid, to gradient sets or even stash scraps would be great! You are looking for a flowy fabric with nice drape. I recommend yarns with some bounce back (wool, for example) to help keep the brioche from stretching out too much. The best way to know if your yarn choice will work is to do a swatch and wet block it! If you like the drape and feel, then go for it!”

Wear it in the front, like a bandanna tied in the back, draped over your shoulders, or off-center and pinned to the side with a shawl pin.

We used three skeins of Kelbourne Woolens Scout in ‘Gray Heather’ and three skeins of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool in ‘Rusted Rainbow’ for this shawl. There are endless color options….feel free to choose a different combination; this is where your creativity comes in.
