In the words of the designer, Veronik Avery…
“One of the earliest knitted items I have ever made was a black ribbed hat for my husband, Marcel. More than 10 years later, he still wears it – and reports that many of his friends have asked for its provenance.
This type of hat is known as a seaman’s hat; the accompanying scarf is also inspired by seamen’s scarves and is meant to function as a tidy layer to be worn under peacoats or sweaters. As it is not meant to loop around the neck as longer scarves do, it is almost as quick a knit as the hat.”
Sizes:
Scarf: approximately 8¾” at widest part; 5½” at narrowest point; and 38″ long; Hat: 21 (22, 22¾)” finished circumference; 7 (8¼, 8½)” total length
Yarn:
3 skeins Brooklyn Tweed Imbue (pictured in Lantern) OR Brooklyn Tweed Shelter
Note: The scarf is readily knit with 2 skeins of Shelter, but the hat pushes the limit of a single skein. If making the hat only, you will require 2 skeins. Shelter sample photographed in color Meteorite, Imbue sample photographed in Lantern.
