Memorial Day marks summer's official start in Northern Michigan, and it's also our anniversary celebration. This is our Copper Anniversary, which means that 22 years ago, on a quiet little street in a sleepy little town, a happy little storefront opened its doors to the wool-loving public for the first time.

But.

Life is not always happy. Memorial Day, is of course, meant to honor those who are no longer with us, those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. The least of all, and perhaps the most devastating, are the elementary school children who were killed in Uvalde this week, the Black community in Buffalo last week, the Asian salon in Dallas the week before. And so on.

Enough.

We encourage you, wherever you live, to get in touch with your senators and congresspeople to tell them how you feel about gun violence in your community‑‑and how they can do better for the public they pledged to serve and protect. Donate where you can. Reach out to family, to neighbors, to your people. Love each other. We're all we have‑‑and every single one of you is so very precious. More precious than any gun.

This weekend is our celebration of the work that so many do and have done to make this life what it is today‑‑and we want to share it with you in every way. At many points this weekend, we imagine we'll be laughing and sharing funny stories about years gone by. And other moments, picking shards from our hearts. We are here for you and here with you, whatever you're feeling. Pick up your needles, hop onto our Saturday Zoom, stop into the store, browse the website while you're sipping your morning coffee. Life is hard. Life is beautiful. Thank goodness for knitting. Always.

Each swatch pictured here is knit with one strand of 'Raspberry Honey' on Super Sock held together with one strand of Mohair Silk. Pictured top to bottom: 'Lise', 'Raspberry Honey' + 'Yellow Brick Road'.
It is the ultimate honor to introduce our newest shop colorway, this time from the one and only Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée Paris: Raspberry Honey. Swirls of golden yellow, warm orange, hot coral and deep magenta travel throughout this skein, finished off with speckles in every color, including chocolate brown. Happy sweetness in yarn form! We're thrilled to have this colorway for the weekend in both Super Sock and Mohair Silk.
Liz knit our Basic Buzz Hat with one strand each of 'Raspberry Honey' in Super Sock and Mohair Silk, our anniversary project from last year. So....the anniversary of an anniversary!

And. What's a custom colorway without a few companion color pairings? We've also brought in a limited supply of two additional Mohair Silk colorways, 'Lise' (deep raspberry) and 'Yellow Brick Road' (LBA's signature yellow) to hold together with Raspberry Honey, whether you're interested in knitting a Basic Buzz Hat, a Love Note or even a fade with all three mohairs, like the Dip Dye Raglan. Not into mohair? Knit the Raspberry Honey Super Sock on its own‑‑one skein will make a pair of simple summery socks (our Constant Companion pattern)‑‑and a few skeins will make a lightweight summery sweater. Chicago-based collage artist Catherine Elizabeth uses exclusively upcycled newspaper to create her art. No paint or dyes. Created with over 100 individually hand-cut and torn pieces found in ads, pictures and comics, her art exists to tell stories and preserve memories. We are in love with these Leelanau scenes and are so proud to introduce these notecards to you this weekend. (Pro tip: slip these notecards into a standard frame‑‑they all make wonderful, affordable art pieces for your walls.)

Michelle Zimmerman is a lifelong Michigander, mother, teacher and ceramic artist based in the greater Detroit area. A graduate of Michigan State University, she majored in studio art and graphic design with a minor in photography and worked as a designer until she became a mother. In 2009, after returning to college to become a teacher, she earned a Master of Teaching degree from Oakland University with certifications in visual arts, language arts and social studies. She currently teaches at Notre Dame Preparatory School and creates these gorgeous ceramic yarn bowls for yarn enthusiasts who like to combine art and craft. With silky smooth glazes, yarn bowls are both functional and beautiful, whether you're using them while knitting or displaying your yarn collection. Each one is completely unique.

Because we can’t bear to leave our long-distance customers out of the weekend merriment, we’re giving away one Paisley & Gold Cincy Bag in Birch (an $80 value!)‑‑FREE. There’s absolutely no purchase necessary to win this giveaway–we can’t wait to see who will end up with this beauty after the weekend.

And. For every $10 you spend throughout the weekend, you'll gain additional entries to win the exact gift basket pictured here‑‑valued at $300. It includes a tin of our Golden Nectar teaa Bee Mug with stainless steel infuser, a Milk & Honey candle, an Oatmeal Honey soap and soap dish, a skein each of Honeybee Mid-Coast String and Wobble Gobble KidMo in 'Caramel Taffy', a cherry needle gauge, a 'You Are Loved' copper enamel pin and perhaps the best addition: a set of interchangeable Copper needles from Lykke. Thank you, dears, for helping us become the shop you've come to know and love. Without you, we simply wouldn't be here.

(Sorry, the Petoskey stone is not included.)

The only way out is through. Knitting isn't a cure-all, of course, but being together helps mend broken hearts.
