North Bay Fiber Trunk Show - March 8-10

We are thrilled to announce that we are welcoming a major fiber icon to our neck of the woods the weekend of March 8-10th: North Bay Fiber with Jill Zielinski. You've known Jill (Knitterella) for years with her amazing knitwear designs. She has been such a big part of the yarn industry and right here in Michigan. Recently she has extended her love of wool to her very own line of breed specific yarns - some even 100% Michigan yarn!

You may have seen Jill in the shop here before having fun times with all of us but this time we are getting the chance to see all the amazing Jill is still brining to our industry just a couple hours down the road. We are so excited to have her yarns here for this very quick weekend. Do make sure you come by and squish some skeins - try on a few samples - shop the right color for that new exciting project.

The shop will be open to everyone–you are ALL welcome here!–
there is no charge.

On Friday, March 8th from 6-8 pm, we'll have an evening launch for the trunk show (mocktails included). Shoppers will have the first chance to shop a full range of colors in her yarn for her new pattern launching that weekend. You'll be able to try on the sample, pick your size and what colors looks best on you. We love helping you choose colors so please ask - it adds to our excitement! There will be more lines from North Bay Fiber and samples so BE READY. You'll have some time to ask Jill questions as she gives a talk about North Bay Fiber and her design journey.

On Saturday, March 9th from 10 am to 4 pm, we’ll be hosting North Bay Fiber at Wool & Honey all day long. From 10 am - noon, come enjoy Open Stitch with Jill . We'll sit and make together. At noon, show up with your Heritage Socks from our last KAL and we'll have a group photo! (there are some kits left at this cute little yarn shop if you haven't made a pair yet - no one has to know - wink wink). We'll have drawings for customers just on Saturday. Items won't online but if you give us a call we can take orders over the phone for you for North Bay Fibers we have at the shop.

On Sunday, March 10th, we’ll have a virtual day with a surprise reveal for everyone to have an equal chance at. We know not everyone can make it here in person so we want to leave some mystery for you too. We aren't sure if other lines from the trunk show will make it online but you know - if we can make it happen - it will!

We’d like to introduce to you Twinkle Tangle‑‑a sweet delight that sparkles and and feels like Joy. Cradling this gorgeous gift in our hands‑‑and thinking both about the hands that created them and the hands that will hold them after they leave ours‑‑felt like stringing our halls with tiny, blinking twinkle lights. Having those nostalgic memories watching our Dad with a tangled mess of lights for the beautifully crowed tree. Oh how our lives are like that tangled mess of cozy lights. We bet some of you feel that too.

We are taking pre-orders now through Dec 3rd for Twingle Tangle. Each skeins is 200 yds of superwash worsted weight. This yarn will be arriving in January  – a New Years treat!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime edition yarn; once they’re gone, that’s it.

Join us January 1st for our Heritage Sock KAL‑‑a DK slipper sock knit in faux cables. Jill Zielinski of North Bay Fibers is wearing women’s medium in ‘Watershed’. Pre-Order Now through Dec.3rd

What if you could begin your knitting new year a little differently? Gentler, kinder, with more grace? Rather than hard corners and tight deadlines, how about soft edges and loose commitments? Why not make your first project of 2024 something small, pleasantly engaging and quick-to-knit, something to boost your sense of accomplishment? We call that an ‘atta boy’ project–and after a long year, we’re more than ready for one. Come–knit with us. Let’s start this next year off on the right foot, shall we?

The prize for finishers? Every single participant who completes their socks during these 2 weeks will receive a Peppermint Tea Tree Keepers Collective Heel & Foot Balm—a $26 value–AND will be entered in a drawing to win the Wool & Honey Life Adjustable Sock Blocker Set–a $40 value.

Exciting new twist this year!

We're halfway through our week-long yarn shop hop in Northern Michigan. An entire week enjoying seven regional yarn shops and at every single stop, there are gorgeous yarns, engaging tutorials, special surprises and unique discounts just waiting for you. The colors are peak this week, popping fiery bursts against gray skies and the temps are deliciously brisk‑‑it's officially knitting season. Stop off at a new lunch spot, discover a pattern you want to try, put your hands on yarns that might just make you fall in love with your craft all over again. You could even win the Grand Prize just for visiting them all—$175 in gift certificates‑‑just for purchasing a passport for just $5.00. Each shop will have a drawing on the last day with a value of $50 and everyone is offering a FREE hard copy pattern featuring a specific technique for creating, along with in-store demonstrations.

And. While the Fall in Love with Fiber Shop Hop was created as a way for makers here in Northern Michigan to support our bricks-and-mortar stores, there are so many of you who consider us your local yarn shop, even though you might be hundreds of miles away. We couldn't bear the thought of leaving our not-so-local locals out of the fun‑‑we know you can't all hop in the car this week to come see us. So, a little something from us to you:

While we anticipate the autumn issues of every creative publication we carry in the shop, this current issue of Pom Pom Magazine is perhaps the best we’ve seen. Ever. From the breathtaking vistas that showcase these knits to the moody, earthy color palette to the essays on Indigenous handwork, every spread is utter delight. This issue was guest edited by Candice English of The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers and we consider it Pom Pom’s crowning glory. Bravo. (And may we also say: what a joy to see our friends’ handwork in this issue. From Melissa Hunter’s brown Bunkhouse pullover sample to Allison Lutes’ Starflight Socks design‑‑gorgeous, every one!)

The patterns in this issue are a representation of hard and soft duality in the American West. The hard work embedded in the people of Montana is a result of the softness you find in the spirit of Indigenous homelands. You will find classic designs that can be worn in utilitarian ways but also jazzed up a bit for social outings.

Quince & Co. Phoebe in ‘Mars’, ‘Andromeda’, ‘Cygnus’ and ‘Orion’; Along Avec Ana Silk Mohair in ‘Grenat’, ‘Tourmaline’, ‘Dune’ and ‘Orage’.

For this striking pullover, designer Lena Zharichenko looked to Blackfoot clothing, which was featured on Candice’s mood board for the issue, where every detail held a significant meaning. In honour of the adornments she saw, Bunkhouse was created with a geometric bobble design along the neckline and sleeves. This sweater is not one for beginners, but we think for the adventurous or ambitious maker the reward of wearing it will be more than worth any challenge involved.

June Cashmere DK in ‘Aegean’, ‘Moss’, ‘Pumpkin’ + ‘Scarlet’; Spincycle Dyed in the Wool in ‘Pop-Click’, ‘The Family Jewels’, ‘Wololo’ + ‘Rosy Maple’.
June Cashmere DK in ‘Espresso’, ‘Mulberry’, ‘June Sky’ + ‘Sea Glass’; Spincycle Dyed in the Wool in ‘Shades of Earth’, ‘Nostalgia’, ‘Ranunculus’ + ‘Space Oddity’.

The details of the Yearling Hat by Lindsey Fowler are reminiscent of traditional handworked quilts with vertical and horizontal embellishment, while the slip stitch colourwork along with simple intarsia are the perfect way to highlight precious scraps and make them the centrepiece using playful pops of colour on a minimalist canvas.

Brooklyn Tweed Arbor in ‘Sashiko’, ‘Arabesque’ and ‘Burnished’, pictured here with Cocoknits Bamboo Cable Needles + Precious Metal Stitch Markers.

The endless golden fields of grass, wheat, and barley that can be found in eastern Montana sparked Elena Solier Jansà’s imagination to create Golden Grass Shawl. Referencing time-honored Aran knitwear but incorporating a more organic motif, this versatile shawl features alternating panels of twisted stitches, cables and bobbles.

Lantern: the molten orange glow of candle flame, pumpkin meets butternut.

You know how much we love Brooklyn Tweed. Love, actually, doesn’t even begin to describe the way we feel. More like magic. (We talked a bit about that magic on their blog HERE.) Every season that passes, every new yarn they add to their collection, we say: this is it. This one’s our new favorite. Might it be truer than ever with brand-new-to-stockists Imbue? Quite possibly yes.

The Brig Hat, by Veronik Avery–knit with two skeins of Lantern.

Imbue hits all the sweet spots: whisper-soft, American-made, worsted weight. The yarn is springy and rounded, buoyant and buttery, saturated and deeply complex in color story. This yarn is what Knitting Season is all about.

Boro, the inky blue of the ocean by moonlight with splashes of brilliant azure, Vapor, a powder blue sky viewed through puffy, white clouds and Orchid, dusty lilac woven with delicate blooms of rust and navy.

Not sure what to knit with Imbue? We put together a few kits–accessories and sweaters–that will keep you cozy all winter long.

The Woven Roots Scarf in Cloak–pattern FREE with yarn purchase!
The Skeppa Sweater in Diebenkorn.
The Reading Cardigan in Cloak.
The Woven Roots Hat–a free pattern that comes with every skein purchase!
Hoping to carve out a bit of dreaming this weekend‑‑flipping through the pages of the newest Taproot, baking a sweet treat or two (hence the sourdough enamel pin!) and maybe even casting on something with a gorgeous new yarn.

bAn assortment of Cocoknits tools we love….and other essentials from the shop. Shown here: Cocoknits Earth Tone Triangle Stitch Markersour cherry needle gauge, the Cocoknits Knitting Row Counter (currently out of stock), the Cocoknits Maker’s KeepCocoknits Flight of Stitch MarkersCocoknits Needle Gaugea coil rope basket from Fox & Honey Fibres, brass hex markersCocoknits Bamboo Cable NeedlesCocoknits Yarn Snip and Cocoknits Stitch Fixer. Also pictured are Hudson + West Weld in ‘Mustard’, ‘Tobacco’ + ‘Gold Leaf’, and some mohair delights from years past.

No matter how many years it’s been since we’ve gone back to school, there’s an electric current in August’s air of what’s to come. While the projects look different for all of us (the knits! the crochet! did someone say weaving?!?), one thing that’s infusing our lives with intention is planning and organizing our stitchery. Is there anything better than lining up your favorite tools in anticipation of the knowledge and the creativity to come?

A Wool & Honey exclusive: a handmade copper needle gauge from our neighbor and friend Dana Fear.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites here in the shop‑‑tools to get you organized, notions to streamline your workflow, accessories to add a bit of shine to your daily and weekly routines.

Really, is there anything cuter than this twee Cocoknits rainbow gauge? (This tiny cork pouch is a close second.) In love, almost as we are with this Neon Lime Kelbourne Perennial.

One of the best parts about these tools is the sheer number of them made by individual artisans, both here in Northern Michigan and worldwide. Using handcrafted tools made by the hands of people you know adds a depth to your creative life, and imbues your heirloom projects with even more love and meaning‑‑while supporting the livelihoods of the artists themselves.

All of our needles are back in stock‑‑poised and ready for Knitting Season!‑‑including Bamboo Flexi Flips.

Think, too, of a new Maker that might relish a knitterly treat in their mailbox. Many of these gifts make unexpected surprises for anyone needing an emotional lift. We ship worldwide every single day, and can put together an assortment of sweet delights that might just change someone’s week.

Seasonless: Patterns for Life

Seasonless: Patterns for Life is a soon-to-be modern classic; a pattern book that contains 5 fundamental knitwear pieces that are all customizable in terms of stitch pattern and shape. Using the same basic gauge in worsted weight yarn, you can make countless versions of the fingerless mitts, hat, vest, sweater and cardigan designs by combining your favorite colors, any of the four stitch variations (stockinette, bold stripes, mosaic, and textured), and different shaping options. All of the patterns are genderless and size-inclusive, so your projects will make great holiday gifts for everyone in the family.

Written by Slow Fashion maven Karen Templer, this book is a result of years of behind-the-scenes knitting while running the beloved Fringe Supply Co. We have missed Karen’s voice in the knitting world over the past three years and are so looking forward to a deep dive into this new, beautiful book.
