This weekend, we’ll be hosting a Pop-Up Shop at Wool & Honey with Janis from Queen City Yarn‑‑all the way from Charlotte, North Carolina. Janis was the dyer who created our Little Traverse Tulips colorway‑‑the April 2021 feature for our Sleeping Bear Yarn Club‑‑and this weekend, we’ll finally get to meet in person.

Janis will be in our shop with us this Saturday, July 1st from 10 am to 1 pm, where she’ll have spinning fiber, samples and the main feature: their summery, silk and linen yarn, Coleman. As a North Carolina-based company, Coleman grew out of Queen City’s desire to keep creating, even in the humid heat of Southern summers. They wanted to craft a yarn that is breathable and comfortable, with colors that evoke visions of summer. The yarn‑‑a DK-weight silk/linen blend‑‑has a gorgeous hand and sumptuous color range and we know that as soon as you feel it, you’ll fall in love.

In her own words…

“After spending Undergrad and Grad School at Savannah College of Art and Design, I found my day job didn’t offer the creative inspiration I craved. Knitting became my outlet, then my side hustle, and now my full-time venture. From casual wine and dye nights, to teaching classes, to pop-up shows, knitting has introduced me to people I cherish. I hope our yarns not only help you with your next project but also welcome you into our creative community.

Our colors are inspired by our beautiful surroundings and the breathtaking places we have visited. While we dye each color to be beautiful on its own, we also strive to design coordinating colorways as well as colors that contrast beautifully with one another. We want to make choosing colors for your projects easy, whether they will be a gorgeous fade or a perfect color pop.”

We can’t wait for you to join us this Saturday, July 1st from 10 am to 1 pm for a meet-and-greet with Janis, where you’ll be able to try on samples, squish her yarns, chat about pattern suggestions and ask her a bit about life as a North Carolina yarn dyer. Not able to join us in person? Stay tuned for an email on Friday for yarn, spinning fiber, patterns ideas and a giveaway for our friends who live far away.
