Summer ’22 Issue

In this issue we have Northern Michigan folks pushing the envelope, testing their personal limits, or even the limits of their own community. We also have organizations creating and curating space for discovery, education, and creativity, indoors and outdoors.

One of our repeat contributors, writer Matthew Medendorp, gets back on the bike and hits the side of the road again, through the small towns of lower Michigan…this time with his pregnant wife…in not-so-great weather, for a chance to disconnect, and reconnect. The owners of Olean’s Dispensaryfollow the lead of a 20-foot-tall woman (a restored Uniroyal Tire Gal statue) through the delicate process of opening a new cannabis shop in the small community of Northport. Writer Alyssa Natoci elegantly reflects on the great influence water has had on the trials and triumphs throughout her life.

From the woods of Leelanau, an artist residency called Tusen Takk provides the launch point for a unique conversation between world-renowned architect Peter Bohlin, and the minds behind Northern Michigan-based Designsmiths. This year’s director of the Traverse City Film Festival, Johanna Evans, talks about her take on what it means to showcase “Just Great Movies.” Finally, from our nonprofit partner Paddle Antrimcomes the story of an organization that strengthened a region through the shared connection of water, and developed the Chain of Lakes Water Trail.

9.5″ x 6.5″ Handsomely bound, color throughout. Not super glossy, instead with textured paper. Feels more like a book than a magazine. Is clean in design with striking imagery and easy to read. Someone would be happy to have it on their coffee table.
