Our launch event hosts are ELEV8, Northern Michigan’s first climbing gym. In our Winter 2021 Issue, the owners of ELEV8 tell the origin story of the gym and discuss the culture of climbing in Northern Michigan.

Also featured in this upcoming issue is our dear friend, jeweler and metalsmith artist Elara Coleman. In her story, she speaks to the influence of slowing down, embracing boredom, and appreciating the natural world she came to love in Northern Michigan. Mike King is a Northern Michigan-born professional skier, and when the pandemic made it even more difficult to travel and pursue his career, he discovered more options for great skiing in his home state of Michigan. Mike will be showing a trailer for his new film at our event.

Speaking of passion for winter, local writers Jerry Dennis and Paul Baumbusch highlight the beauty of winter and bolster why we in Northern Michigan choose to embrace these hardier days. Finally, we feature a day in the life of our nonprofit partner, Crooked Tree Arts Center, written by Megan Kelto. It’s a wonderful snapshot of their locations in both Traverse City and Petoskey.
