Copper Needle Gauge

Every year for our Sleeping Bear Yarn Club, we give a gift to all of our returning members as a thank you for their long-standing participation in the club. This year it’s handmade by our neighbor Dana Fear, local metalsmith and kinetic jewelry maker. We love this unique gift so much, we asked Dana if she could make this for all of our customers.

This hand-cut copper gauge is approximately 2″ in diameter and has designated millimeter holes for needles ranging from 2.0 mm through 6.5. It can easily fit inside your notions bag, but its rugged simplicity is such a lovely showpiece, thread a cord through one of the holes (or the center hexagon) to wear as a necklace, hang from your keychain or use as a zipper pull.

To use: guide the tip of your needle into a hole; if you meet resistance, it’s the right size. If your needle passes all the way through, your needle is smaller than the size you’re looking for.
